Newquay RNLI crew flex their muscles for lifeboat day

Newquay RNLI crew will be flexing their muscles and showing off their lifesaving skills at the station’s annual lifeboat day on Sunday 30thAugust 2009.

The annual fun filled family day is packed to the gills with displays and entertainment from 10:00 to 18:00 hrs.

The lifeboat station will be open to the public and the two inshore lifeboats will available for members of the public to see at close quarters. Volunteer crew members and station representatives will be on hand to welcome members of the public and answer any questions.

Through out the day there will be search and rescue displays by Newquay’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat, Gladys Mildred, the D class lifeboat, Valerie Wilson, Padstow’s Tamar class lifeboat, Spirit of Padstow and a SAR helicopter from RNAS Culdrose. The RNLI lifeguards will be on hand to show their rescue skills.

Newquay RNLI fundraisers will be there to provide members of the public with plenty of means to empty their pockets of their hard earned money raising vital funds for the RNLI lifesaving service – barbeque, fundraising stalls, raffle, refreshments and much more.

As well as The Royals Artillery parachute team jumping onto Towan beach this year’s lifeboat day also includes demonstrations from HMCG Tug, Anglian Princess, Newquay Coastguards, Fire & rescue, Newquay rowing club, Padstow sea cadets and Tae Kwon Do. Our local harbour master will be running a shark throwing competition – no sharks will be harmed! Many other groups and agencies will be in the harbour with static stands and information including Stay safe in the sun, Water Aid, Newquay Surf life saving club, and Devon and Cornwall police to mention but a few.

Not forgetting the little ones, in addition to all the exciting displays children will be able to have their faces painted, meet Stormy Stan and Sammy seal

Music will be provided throughout the day by Kernow pipe and drum band, St Dennis band and local musicians. The day will commence with the lone piper greeting the lifeboats from South Quay and for the first time this year the Joshua, Newquay’s first lifeboat and Kernow pipe and drum band will lead a parade through the town to the harbour. The parade commences at 11:00 from Killacourt.
