Newquay 005 2009
With many of Newquay’s businesses and schools
rising to the challenge of RNLI SOS day, the RNLI fundraising ladies lured
members of the public into the Griffin Hotel in Newquay for a Sample Our
Shortbread coffee morning.
As ever the RNLI fundraising volunteers’
baking skill and reputation preceded them and despite the weather the event
was an overwhelming success with over £850 being raised during the 3 hour
event.
Sheilah Parnell, President of the Newquay
RNLI Ladies Guild says:
‘The morning was a great success and we would
like to thank the people who braved the weather and so generously supported
us’

St Newlyn East School, a regular supported of
the SOS day, left the SOS theme to the children’s imagination. The children
abandoned their usual school uniform and donned an assortment of Spots or
Stripes clothing combinations along with various Spikes or Stripes hair
styles. Anything went as long as it conformed to the SOS theme. One teacher,
who shall remain nameless, wore Sandals on Socks but we are not convinced if
he really did it as part of SOS day!

The children finished the day with a talk
from Chris & Geoff Brown, RNLI educational officers, who gave an exciting
talk on the work of the RNLI and how to be safe near the sea. At the end of
the day the children proudly presented Chris& Geoff with a cheque for £105.
We know that there were many more fundraising
events in and around Newquay. Newquay RNLI would love to hear about them,
if you have any photos that we can use on our website please email them to
