Newquay RNLI Lifeboat Day – fun for all the family

Newquay RNLI lifeboat station will be holding their annual lifeboat day on Sunday 6th August 2006 from 10:30 am.

The lifeboat station will be open to the public and the two inshore lifeboats, Phyllis and Valerie Wilson, will available for members of the public to see at close quarters. Volunteer crew members and station representatives will be on hand to welcome members of the public and answer any questions.

The new Tamar class RNLI lifeboat, Spirit of Padstow, will be in Newquay Harbour for her first Newquay lifeboat day.

Newquay RNLI fundraisers will be there to provide members of the public with plenty of means to empty their pockets of their hard earned money - fundraising stalls, raffle, refreshments and much more.

The tenth annual ‘Mangled Prop’ gig race will be held at 11:45 am. The Police are eager to retain some dignity and at least win one of the prop trophies. Given that Newquay RNLI’s volunteer crew won the rugby and have won all of the previous ‘Mangled Prop’ gig races……..

There will be lifeboat demonstrations throughout the day; this year’s include a combined helicopter demonstration with the Newquay RNLI lifeboats, Padstow RNLI lifeboat and an SAR helicopter from RNAS Culdrose.

The Atlantic lifeboat crew will demonstrate a net recovery, a technique used when the conditions are too severe to safely recover onto the trailer in the normal way.

The D-Class lifeboat crew will be demonstrating a capsize drill in the RNLI’s training D-Class.

Newquay’s RNLI Beach Rescue lifeguards will be demonstrating their surf life saving skills on Towan beach.
